As you might have guessed by now the 192.168.2.1 stands for the IP address and it falls in the category of the private IP addresses. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has basically assigned the three blocks of the IP addresses for the private internets. These three blocks are 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 and third one under which the above-mentioned IP address falls is the 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255. If you are using the broadband routers of the make SMC and Belkin then you would be have noticed that this IP address as the default IP address.

This address is set as the default IP address at the production factory but it is not the final one. You can very easily change it to any desired address by opening the network router's administrator console. This address of 192.168.2.1 is used in many homes to establish an internet link with the default internet gateway. The private IP addresses that have been assigned have got a very good attribute. These addresses can be used unlimited times but on the different networks. If on a similar network same private IP address exists then it will show the IP address conflict and will hinder the working of the Internet.

This is due to the fact that these IP addresses are non routable. To resolve this IP address conflict private IP address of one of the two systems showing conflict has to be changed. Although the IANA has assigned three blocks of the private IP addresses but still you will find the IP addresses starting with 192 most common in the use. Other default private IP addresses used in the home broadband routers are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. You can assign any particular IP address of your choice from the available list of blocks and normally if the number of systems on a network are less then the IP addresses that end with 11 or 22 or 222 are used as they are easy to remember.
