Android Apps With more than 100,000 to choose from, designing your Top 10 Android Apps is not easy.

Since Apple introduced the concept of easily accessible, user-friendly applications, smart phone owner has never been so fun. But the problem with Apple is that they are a closed club. You're either an Apple fan boy (or girl) or you're not. However, with Android, Google has changed all that. Now the idea of smart phone apps is no longer the exclusive domain of the Apple kingdom. Furthermore, with the launch of Windows 7 Phone is the smart phone market nascent App.

The beauty of Android Apps is the fact that the Android OS is open source. Google were very wise here, so the creativity of developers to the bedroom shine through, and although Android Apps a way to go before they reach the 280,000 plus apps for Apple, there are plenty to choose from. So the simple question is, what are the Top 10 Android Apps you have?

Here are my current choices, all free. I must add the proviso that when new releases every week, and this may well change. I have also tried to apps that cover a range of functions selected so they cover a wide selection of games, productivity, social media, etc.

1. Gmail and Google Calendar

Now I know this may not be very exciting for some. This is a bit of a no-brainer for me, as I live from my Gmail account. So with direct access to multiple accounts and this is a must. Since Android is a Google application, Gmail works seamlessly, as expected.

2. Tweet Deck

I'm Friend Stream, but I believe it is an HTC phone app that converges status updates from Facebook and Twitter. TweetDeck is a similar thing, in that you can see what's happening on Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Buzz, all from one screen. With a constant notifications when updates are made. You can update your status directly to all your accounts with a single update.

3. Goggles

So this is one of those cute but surprisingly practical applications of Google Labs. It searches through photos, take a picture and it does a Google search based on the analysis of that picture. Also works on bar codes and QR codes (which strange black and white squares pattern you see). See a product, take a picture, and it gives you an Amazon price for that product, or related products.

4. WordPress

This is firmly in the Productivity. I have a number of WordPress blogs, and this fantastic application allows me to instantly update my blog, and posts and pages, check and add comments to see all of your visitor statistics, sitting on the train. It allows for multiple blogs, and is easy to switch between them.

5. Evernote

OK, I know it's another one under the banner productivity, but those of you familiar with what Evernote does, this version has an Android App. Evernote is like an online notepad where you can save web clippings, notes and photos. This application allows you to take pictures, write notes or audio notes to take and upload them to your Evernote account. See, for example something you want to blog about, take a photo, Evernote in one click upload. It requires an Evernote account, which is free to sign up www.evernote.com

6. Hangover

Here's a bit ridiculous sublime light relief. I first saw this on an iPad and thought it was hilarious. It was one of the first apps on my phone when I discovered that in the Android Market Apps. It's basically your own virtual animated cat with a big mouth. Stroke is the screen where his stomach, and he grinned. Click on the icon of milk and he drinks milk. There is even an icon where it appears to scratch the screen. My five year old daughter loves this, and the killer aspect is when you say something then repeats it back to Tomcat a silly voice. It's one of those things that one should play with to appreciate fully. My words do not do justice. Paid versions have more animations, but the free version is very nice.

7. YouTube

This is a well-designed application. The YouTube provides a user-friendly and accessible way, and will be automatically linked to your account if you have a Gmail account, allowing you access your channels and videos easily.

8. Google Maps

Excellent navigation feature with Google Maps and latitude, for letting people who have access to your account Latitude know exactly where you are. It's like a sat-nav in your hand. You can also download Google Street View to go with it.

9. Amazon Kindle

While a phone is probably not the best device to read "War and Peace", Amazon Kindle is brilliant ability to buy and read books from Amazon on your Smartphone. Of course the reading experience will vary depending on the smart phone you have, but if you do not like carrying books around, or just want to catch up on some reading time, this is highly recommended. The pages flick past beautiful, and it works well. The app takes you directly to the Amazon store, where you can search for Kindle books, they buy and download immediately.

10. Last FM

When it comes to listening to music, I get bored with listening to the same old tracks. The beauty of Last FM is that it learns what you like and create your own playlist based on your personal taste, so listen to music remains fresh. No use of bandwidth due to streaming, so be careful how much you use when not connected via Wi-Fi.

So there you go. You can agree or disagree with my choices and I'm sure I could have missed something. But now, these are all on my HTC Wildfire, and my Top 10 Android Apps choice.
