West End Shows: Full of Famous Faces

The West End is alive with celebrities strutting their stuff in top London shows. Soap stars, film actors, famous musicians and reality TV contestants have all flocked to Theatreland of late and are showcasing their talents on the big stage.

Here is a rundown of the latest celebrities currently performing at the West End and those about to take the limelight.


Laura Dos Santos and Tim Piggott-Smith

Laura Dos Santos who has appeared in The Bill and Bad Girls stars in Educating Rita. A fabulous actress, Dos Santos will perform alongside Tim Piggott-Smith who has enjoyed roles in multiple stage and screen shows including Doctor Who. A London show superbly written by the ever-popular Willy Russell, Educating Rita is a wonderful play which addresses the many issues facing a Liverpudlian community and features a cast of just two. This duo have tremendous chemistry onstage and make this a great London show.


Meera Syal

Shirley Valentine completes the Willy Russell season at the Trafalgar Studios and stars Meera Syal. Leading this one-woman show, Syal is engaging and gets the balance between sentiment and comedy just right. Lucie Jones and Samantha Barks

Lucie Jones, who made it into the live shows of X Factor in 2009 stars as Cosette in the ever popular musical Les Miserables. Jones stars alongside another former reality show contestant Samantha Barks who rose to fame on the TV talent search I'd Do Anything and is now playing the role of Eponine. An all time favourite London show set amid the Parisian underworld during the French Restoration, Les Miserables has proved a great success.


Robert Lindsay

Robert Lindsay will star in the upcoming West End show Onassis. A talented and experienced actor, Lindsay has starred in the popular TV show Citizen Smith and the hilarious comedy My Family. A diverse performer, Lindsay has appeared on stage numerous time playing Shakespearean roles and starred as Fagin in the West End production of Oliver! the musical. Kevin Kennedy

Kevin Kennedy, aka Coronation Street's Curly Watts, is to star as Pop in the sensational London Show We Will Rock You. Kennedy has already played Pop in a touring production of the show and has appeared in the West End production of Chicago the Musical as well a in a touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Set to 32 of Queen's greatest hits, We Will Rock You is the perfect theatre break for lovers of rock music and those who long to see Kevin Kennedy live on stage.


Matt Willis

Matt Willis, is to star in Flashdance the Musical when it opens at the Shaftesbury Theatre in October. A great singer, well-known for being a member of ex-boyband Busted, Willis is set to wow audiences on the big stage. Starring alongside Victoria Hamilton-Barritt who has played Rizzo in Grease and has been in Fame, Saturday Night Fever and Mamma Mia!, Flashdance the Musical has a fantastic duo to lead the cast. The show is choreographed by Arlene Phillips and is bookable today as part of a London theatre break.


Amanda Holden and Richard Blackwood

Amanda Holden, a judge on Britain's Got Talent who also performed in the West End production of Thoroughly Modern Millie is to play Princess Fiona in the forthcoming production of Shrek the Musical. She will be joined by Richard Blackwood who recently appeared in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Nigel Lindsay is rumored to play the lead role of Shrek and Nigel Harman is said to play Lord Farquaad. A London show, perfect for the whole family, Shrek the Musical will be a must-see.


Chris Fountain and Verity Rushworth

Hollyoaks and Dancing on Ice Star Chris Fountain and Emmerdale's Verity Rushworth are to star in Departure Lounge at London's Waterloo East Theatre. Departure Lounge has been called a 'hungover High School Musical' and is set to be a fun show to enjoy as part of a London theatre break.


Kacey Ainsworth

Kacey Ainsworth will play the Wicked Queen in Puss in Boots at the Arts Theatre. A talented actress, best-known for playing Little Mo in EastEnders, Ainsworth is set to hit the West End in this wonderful Christmas pantomime. A great tale (no pun intended), Puss in Boots tells the story of the well-loved feline "bandit" and is a great show to enjoy over the festive season. Boo and hiss as Kacey Ainsworth swaps the East End for the West End this Noel.


Laura Bell Bundy and Denise Van Outen

Rumour has it that Laura Bell Bundy who played Elle Woods in the Broadway production of Legally Blonde the Musical will succeed Sheridan Smith in the West End production of the show. Meanwhile Denise Van Outen, who is married to Lead Mead, will take over from Jill Halfpenny as Paulette in the smash-hit musical, returning to the stage after giving birth. Van Outen has a wealth of stage experience having appeared in Rent Remixed and Chicago the Musical.
