There are many fashionable boutiques in the city centre such as the Grade I listed Corn exchange. Many of the streets in the shopping quarter are connected to the pedestrianised shopping street called Briggate, home to a number of major retailers - if you’re looking for a Leeds beauty salons, here would be the ideal starting point.

It is not surprising to learn that one of the famous names on the high street, Marks and Spencer (M&S) was started in 1884 by Michael Marks on a Stall in Leeds’ Kirkgate Market (the largest covered market in the UK). By 1926 it had produced its first bra and in 2005 M&S' Sir Stuart Rose (the former Chief Executive) tasked the M&S lingerie department to develop a range of comfortable post surgery bra for women to wear after surgery for breast cancer, in 2006 M&S became the first high street retailer to launch its own brand of post surgery lingerie.

 

It is estimated that between one in four and one in three women in the UK owns an M&S bra, with a market share of 18.9%. The company aims to provide value through its supply chain, including in its manufacturing operations - M&S supplier factory in Sri Lanka, is the world's first eco factory developed to manufacture lingerie, the factory has been made out of compressed earth bricks, grass & medicinal plant rooftop, the factory uses less electricity and water to manufacture M&S goods than its counterparts.

The successful British retailer will provide a series of Marks in Time lectures together with the University of Leeds, providing an insight into how the company has shaped its business and chart the evolution of underwear for the retailer. The talks will aim to celebrate the partnership between M&S and the University of Leeds and will take place on November 5th 2010.
