What do you get if you mix a beard, two pop star sisters and a tattoo-wielding Pete Wentz? No, not Britain's Got Talent, it's the first edition of Red Room featuring Fall Out Boy, The Veronicas, Seasick Steve, Jesca Hoop and a man playing an armadillo guitar.

Virgin's new weekly music show, Red Room, will be available on virgin.com, YouTube and Facebook, as well as other Virgin platforms around the world - including airlines and mobile services.

Sir Richard Branson says:

"The industry is struggling to keep up with the consumer in today's music market so in true Virgin style we have handed the controls of this new music show over to the fans.

"It ironically feels very similar to how I started out years ago putting together Student magazine from my basement flat with hardly any money and just a few contacts. With that same spirit the Red Room team have decided to forge a new show with hardly any budget and try to offer an alternative to everything that's already out there."

Producer Bob Fear says:

"It isn't your run-of-the-mill music show. There's no slick, glossy production - Red Room is definitely lo-fi. It takes a DIY look at the latest and greatest of the musical world, with unique intimate performances and exclusive interviews. Artists are invited to pitch up and belt out acoustic performances in a no frills, honest and authentic fashion.

"The Red Room can be virtually anywhere from Sheffield to Sydney and the viewers around the world are as involved as the producers. A different unsigned act will be the house band every week, while viewers can upload videos of themselves venturing into the world of music journalism."

Friends and fans of Red Room can chat with the producers and presenters of the show via virgin.com, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace and Twitter and help drive each show's content - by providing their own video contributions or by setting the questions for the artists being interviewed.

Also, different title graphics will be designed each week by any viewers who are budding designers - truly making Red Room an interactive, audience-driven experience.

In episode one the public put their questions to eccentric bluesman Seasick Steve, while host Eleanor Conway gets tattooed by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and The Veronicas discuss facing off against the Minogues.

Coming up in the next few episodes we will be on set as Biffy Clyro shoot their latest video, talking to Jarvis Cocker at a bizarre music and yoga event, as well as reporting from the UK Festival Awards and Alicia Keys' exclusive album launch. There will be also exclusive acoustic performances from some of the hottest breakthrough acts including BBC Sound of 2010 nominees Rox and Marina And The Diamonds.

For something different, something new and something yours, head to the Red Room .
