Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Serbian artist, Branko Bosnic, in Rhetorical Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from November 23, 2010 through December 14, 2010 (opening reception: Thursday, December 02, 2010).

One finds a subtle intimacy in Branko Bosnic’s angular forms, the choppy motion of his brushstrokes giving a sense of immediacy and timelessness. The fractured sensuality of his semi-nude women, depicted through social realism, is reminiscent of other modern masters of the past century. Bosnic approaches his works as drawings, constructing a strong foundation for his compositions in bold lines. He works in both acrylics and oils with short, staccato strokes and a subdued palette, filling the canvas with a single centralized figure. Refusing to limit himself to a single medium, he is also a skilled draftsman, creating highly realistic and sensitive portraits in both charcoal and pencil.

Branko Bosnic learned his craft first through watching his father, also an accomplished artist, and later at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Kosovo, although the Serbian-born artist was forced to discontinue his studies there during the 1999 revolution, completing his studies later in Belgrade as part of the same academy. Bosnic currently lives and works in the United States.
