Most of us never seem to have enough money for everything we need, and we would like to find out how we can get more out of every dollar. One way we can save a little money is to make a few small changes in the things we do. This article gives four tips on how to save money by doing things with your leftover food that you may not have considered before.

1) Make some quick chili with your meat leftovers. A great way to use that leftover beef or chicken is combine it with a few quick ingredients to make an easy chili dish. Cube the leftover meat pieces, add a can or two of kidney beans, stewed tomatoes (and a few fresh if you have them), onions, green peppers, and add chili powder to taste. Bring to a boil, then simmer for at least an hour and-Voila! A terrific chili dish that is sure to please the entire family.

2) Change your thinking about leftovers. Don't even think about throwing away your leftovers! Change your mindset and start thinking of leftovers as your next meal. A good way to track leftovers is to put a list on the refrigerator door and write down every leftover you put in the fridge, as well as the date.

3) Write the dates. To expand on the previous point, you can reduce food waste by writing the date on all foods you put in the refrigerator and the freezer. For leftovers in the fridge, writing the date will give you a time frame in which to use it before it spoils. For freezer leftovers, writing the date will help you use the food before it gets freezer burned, or takes on freezer odors.

4) Cook extra food. Yes, cook more that you need for one meal - cook enough so you'll have leftovers. Take the leftovers to work the next day, or save it for your dinner tomorrow evening. It takes just as much effort to cook a little or a lot, so cook a lot, and have tomorrow's lunch already made.
There you have it, four easy-to-do things with leftovers that will help you reduce waste and keep a little more money in your pocket book.
