Here's one piece of news that's music to the ears for cell phone users across the world. GSMA has announced that they'll be coming out with a single universal charger for all cell phones (except Apple). Now cell users needn't worry about carrying their own chargers around, or leaving them back home while traveling. It's a huge plus on convenience for every cell phone user. GSMA has signed an agreement with most handset manufacturers like AT&T, KTF, LG, mobilkom austria, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, Telstra, T-Mobile and Vodafone. That's a big pool that's joined the bandwagon.

It's time to stop fretting about mobiles going out of charge when you've not got your own charger. Not just that, this kind of universal charger would work with any new handset you purchase in future. It really doesn't matter what brand you're using, these chargers would or should work. These standardized chargers would have a shared USB interface and higher efficiency as well. There are some voices that are questioning the efficacy of having a micro-USB connector as the new standard.

These doubts are mainly connected to the environmental benefits that the chargers would have. The skeptics think that the micro-USB connector will reduce these environmental benefits to an extent. GSMA has claimed that producing the single-charger for all phones would significantly bring down greenhouse gases resulting from manufacturing and transportation. Did anyone know that there are about 50 million chargers that are disposed once every 20 months? Quite a shocking revelation! These chargers are posing huge environmental hazards. The new set of chargers is designed to tackle such environmental issues by reducing charger consumption and saving on power by at least 50 per cent.

All consumers (especially the environmentally aware) would surely hope that this multipurpose charger's one of the many success stories of gadget makers.

Note: Busy cell phone users can now download top ringtones, funny ringtones and premium ringtones online.
