Like it or not the rise of the mobile phone is making many other personal devices obsolete. As these handy little gadgets become increasingly technical and include many features that were stand alone devices in the past.

The Wristwatch: What's the time Mr Wolf? When your mobile has an easily identifiable clock on the screen many people see no point in wearing an additional wristwatch, it just being another piece of decoration weighing you down. Of course they still retain some merits as fashion accessories and as a result still sell very well, however mobile phones are fast moving them out this arena too as they also become highly regaled items of fashion signifying the style and status of the owner.

Alarm Clock: These are the scourge of the nine to five workers and although having an alarm on your mobile phone doesn't make it any easier to get up it has instigated a massive drop in the sales of alarm clocks around the world. If you ask your colleagues in the office how they woke up this morning the majority will answer ‘with the alarm on my mobile phone'. If you need more evidence then just look into how popular alarm applications are for the iPhone and other smartphones.

Digital Camera: It has taken a considerable amount of time for camera phones to develop to a level where they can be seriously considered as cameras and not just an extra element to your mobile phone. Of course they're a long way from the high standard of digital SLRs but the difference between your digital camera and the camera on your phone is becoming less and less.

Portable music players: MP3 players quickly replaced the hand held CD Player and as mobile phones like the Sony Walkman and the iTouch come with MP3 players as standard having a separate tool for listening to music on the move is not going to be necessary for long. And unlike the camera situation MP3 players that come built into mobile handsets are usually of very high quality with plenty of memory for storing large amounts of music.

Home Phones: Many of the younger generation are quite accustomed to not having landlines in their place of residence, especially after moving out of their parents home, there seems very little point in having a mobile and a home phone as well. Of course we may be some way off their complete extinction yet as companies still offer excellent free call packages for landlines but I think its only a matter of time until these offers migrate over to all mobile phones.
