Too many cliches mar the outing

Many a times in the case of a film the casting makes all the difference. This is truer for a romantic--comedy and this is exactly the reason why many films just tend to rely on ‘excellent' casting more than anything. The makers of Did You Hear About the Morgans would have thought that getting Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker is nothing short of a modern-day miracle and hence left everything else to chance.

The problem is that sadly casting and even trailers don't make a film! Paul and Meryl Morgan have hit the end of the road as far as their marriage goes. They are about to go their separate ways when the couple is forced to relocate to the back of beyond in the picturesque Wyoming courtesy FBI's witness protection programme thanks to the murder they have witnessed. The situations thereon are a feeble attempt by everything in sight to help the Morgans rekindle their love for each other. From the crests and troughs of regular countryside existence Paul and Meryl…well, go through the demands of a romantic comedy script until its logical end.

Usually any film divided people into two groups--the haters and the lovers. Now add two more groups--the critics and the average movie going audience. Now divide each of the four into two groups and now finally put them in two groups and put them on either side of the fence. Confusing, isn't it? This reviewer was only trying to maintain your interest in case the outline of the film put you to sleep. What the above mentioned lines essentially mean is that some have found this film hilarious and would like you to watch it to form an opinion. Whereas the other group has found this so boring that they maintain fishing in a swimming pool would be a more exhilarating experience than watching this romantic comedy.

Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw is so ingrained in our collective consciousness that no matter what she does she can never be too far from Manhattan which incidentally is the catch line of the film. Hugh Grant is just Hugh Grant, like every film of his he plays the same character with respectable élan, which nonetheless is getting is tad boring. Blessed with so many clichés, cinematic and otherwise, Did You Hear About the Morgans is a film to be watched if you have nothing to do. Honestly it has its moments but so is sifting though a dictionary.
