The Sony Ericsson Xperia range has seen the introduction of several new models. This includes the XPERIA X10 Mini, which is basically a compact version of the XPERIA X10. Behind the scenes, the same technology is incorporated. This includes touch screen navigation, 5MP camera and internet connectivity.

The compact handset certainly looks the part, with a glossy black finish complemented by tasteful silver buttons at the base of the touch screen.

The handset itself measures 83x50x16mm and is lightweight at just 88 grams. Certainly a compact handset, this is sure to appeal to a range of users. Despite its small size, the XPERIA X10 Mini offers an impressive spec list. The 2.55 inch TFT capacitive touch screen offers great quality display of its on screen content. This is thanks to the ability to display 16 million colours at a pixel set up of 240x320.

Users can customise the ringtones thanks to the ability to assign MP3 files for this purpose, which of course works alongside vibration as expected from any newly released handset. Two options for hands free talking are included with the handset. These are a built in speakerphone system and a 3.5mm audio jack. This accommodates hands free headsets as well as headphones so users can listen to music files via the media player.


Internal storage for this stylish phone is 128MB, along with a micro SD slot which has a pre-installed 2GB memory card. In order to attain further levels of storage for data such as media files, the 2GB memory card can be replaced with one of a higher capacity up to 16 GB.

The Xperia X10 Mini is equipped with a digital camera boasting an impressive 5MP. This operates at a pixel resolution of 2560x1920, so the still images are generally of very good quality. The task of taking good quality photos is made relatively simple thanks to the inclusion of features such as autofocus and LED flash. As an alternative method of image capture, the camera can also shoot video in VGA quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

The handset utilises a variety of connectivity options in order to stay connected. The primary method of connecting to networks is via class 10 versions of both GPRS and EDGE, however in areas offering 3G coverage, HSDPA and HSUPA kick in for a faster connection to the internet. The connectivity options are finished off with Bluetooth and micro USB for connecting the handset to a computer allowing users to complete a range of tasks.


Android OS 1.6 is the operating system of choice, and coupled with a powerful 600MHz Qualcomm processor, the user's experience is fast and smooth, and demanding applications are handled with ease. A versatile media player in included which supports most of the common formats of music and video files, and application are included which allow direct access to various search engines and social networking sites.

With its compact size in addition to its great styling and impressive functions, the Xperia X10 Mini looks set to take the market by storm.
