Sony Ericsson are renowned for their walkman phones. This latest colour variant of the W302 offers an exciting new colour with an impressively reliable technologically advanced handset. As with all Walkman style phones, this one provides musical entertainment and is unsurpassed in quality. The handset measures 100 mm x 46 mm wide and is only 10 mm thick and only weighs 78 g.

The handset in some respects mirrors an MP3 player, due in part to its Walkman player and associated accoutrements. The player comes with trackID music recognition which provides the means to locate information regarding the track playing. The addition of a stereo FM radio which comes with RDS provides the means to listen to local and national radio stations throughout the country.

The phone comes with a 2 inch TFT display screen which operates at a pixel screen size 176 x 220 pixels. Its ability to display 256,000 colours means that images displayed on the screen are shown in a vivid colourful manner. The package includes a series of wallpapers and screensavers which can be utilised to further enhance and personalise the handset, the option to download polyphonic, MP3 and AAC ringtones is a welcome addition.

Internal memory within the phone is 20 MB, however most packages include a 512 MB card which can be placed within the memory stick Micro slot to increase the memory. If desired up to 4 GB can be placed within the slot for further expansion of the memory.

The Sony Ericsson W302 Indigo comes with a 2 megapixel camera which is able to display imagery at a reasonable quality. The camera operates at 1600 x 1200 pixels and also doubles up as a video capture device. Video recording is at QCIF quality and at 15 frames per second. This is a useful alternative to static imagery.

Connectivity is provided by GPRS and EDGE, both of which are class 10. Whilst the Blue tooth and USB connections provide alternative means for file transfer and synchronisation with a PC should the need arise.

In addition to the numerous functions mentioned the handset also provides an organiser, to ensure that important dates are not missed and a voice memo facility, which provides the ability to take oral notes when a pen and paper are not to hand. The handset comes in a variety of colours which includes midnight black, sparkling white and this version which is indigo blue.

The Indigo Sony Ericsson W302 is an interesting colour variant and one that works effectively. As a Walkman style handset it is unmatched in quality of sound and playability whilst the new colour will provide an alternative to the currently available colour schemes.
