The Sony Ericsson C901 has proved to be a popular handset for Sony, incorporating as it does a wide variety of technology such as a camera and internet connectivity. All of this within the confines of an outer casing, that measure 105 mm x 45 mm wide and only 13 mm thick.


The handset comes with an impressive 2.2 inch TFT display screen, but offers fulsome colour reproduction and effective display by virtue of its ability to display up to 256,000 colours within a pixel screen size of 240 x 320 pixels. In addition an accelerometer sensor is provided, which automates the task of image orientation, dependent upon whether the image is being viewed in landscape or portrait mode.


The handset comes with vibration and ring alert types, with the added bonus of being able to download polyphonic, MP3 and AAC ringtones as a further means of individualising the handset. A useful speakerphone is provided which offers hands-free communication. Photo call opportunities exist thanks to the phone book which can retain up to 1000 entries whilst call records are able to retrieve the last 30 received, dialled and missed calls. The phone comes with an internal memory of 100 MB, however this can be expanded upon by making use of the memory stick micro feature integrated into the handset, which provides the means to expand the memory up to 8 GB.



The Sony Ericsson C901 Black comes with impressive 5.0 megapixel camera which operates at 2592 by 1944 pixels and includes auto focus as well as a xenon flash and LED flash as standard. To aid picture taking, face and smile detection are also included and the ever increasing popular geo-tagging is also available. QVGA quality video capture is also provided by the handset and offers a suitable alternative to still imagery.


The unit comes with a wide variety of entertainment options which include a stereo FM radio with RDS, a variety of games, which include motion-based games as well as the opportunity to download further games if and when required. In addition an MP4/MP3 player offers media playing capabilities with the added bonus of TrackID music recognition. The handset comes with additional features such as Google maps, a picture editor/blogging feature as well as a YouTube application, an organiser and voice memo facility.
