Samsung have recently launched a white colour variant of the C3050. It adds aesthetic appeal to this modest handset which offers good everyday functionality and appeals to fans of more traditional mobile phone technology.

The handset itself measures 97x47.3x14.9mm and weighs just 86 grams. Its light weight and relatively slim profile make it comfortable to hold and use on the move. A 2 inch TFT screen displays 65,000 colours within 120x160 pixels for reasonable picture display quality.

Standard vibration works in conjunction with ringing to alert users to incoming calls and messages. Ringtones can be customised thanks to the ability to utilise MP3 music files as ringtones and download polyphonic ringtones. A speakerphone is built into the handset offering the option to communicate hands free.

The C3050 has an internal phonebook which can store up to 1000 contacts. 15 MB of internal storage allows a small amount of data such as media files to be stored. Should this not be adequate enough, the presence of a micro SD slot means that up to 8 GB can be made available by installing a memory card with a higher capacity.

For connecting to its primary networks, the C3050 utilises class 10 EDGE and class 10 GPRS. As a method of directly transferring files between compatible handsets, Bluetooth v2.0 is installed, offering a convenient and free means of file sharing provided the recipient is in the same locality as the sender. Bluetooth Messenger is another feature of the C3050 White, enabling messages to be sent via Bluetooth, much like an SMS message but again, free of charge. USB v2.0 allows users to connect the phone to a computer in order to carry out tasks such as backing up contact info or transferring media files.

A digital camera is built into the handset which takes photos in VGA quality (640x480 pixels) offering a means to take quality photographs. It can also shoot video as an alternative to stills, and this is in QCIF quality at 15 frames per second.

Additional features of the C3050 White include MP3 player, organiser, voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input. Extra entertainment functions include a range of pre-installed games with the option to download extras if required, and a FM radio player.

This is certainly no Smartphone, but Samsung's intentions were to produce a phone capable of carrying out everyday functions efficiently. Its appeal lies mainly in users who are not necessarily fans of touch screens or QWERTY keyboards. This is an affordable handset which offers aesthetically pleasing styling with a White colour scheme.
