Released in October 2009, the Samsung B3410 is a versatile handset featuring a slide out QWERTY keyboard as well as touch screen navigation. Given its range of features, it is a surprisingly affordable handset.

The B3410 measures 102.3x52.4x15.9mm and weighs in at 113.7g making it reasonably lightweight so it is comfortable to hold and use. The 2.6 inch TFT touch screen is capable of displaying 256,000 colours at 240x320 pixels ensuring depth and clarity of on screen images.

Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages by vibration and ringing with the option to utilize MP3 music files as ringtones. The handset has a built in speakerphone system allowing hands free communication. A 3.5mm audio jack accommodates hands free kits as well as headphones for listening to music.

Internal memory in the B3410 is 30 MB as standard; however this can be increased to 8 GB by using the provided microSD (TransFlash) facility. This allows for plenty of storage of media files and other data. As well as storing up to 1000 contacts in its phonebook, the B3410 also features the useful PhotoCall facility. This is where a picture of a contact is taken and assigned to a number in the phonebook. When this person calls, the picture is displayed on the screen.

The primary means of connectivity is via Class 10 versions of both GPRS and EDGE. Bluetooth v2.0 is installed as standard, allowing direct transfer of files and data between other Bluetooth compatible handsets.

The B3410 is equipped with a camera boasting 2MP which operates at a pixel resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. It can also shoot video as an alternative to taking still images. This is in QVGA quality at a rate of 13 frames per second.

The media player supports a range of file formats. These include MP3, WAV, eAAC+ and WMA music files. The following video files are also supported: MP4, H.263 and H.264. Additional entertainment options include Stereo FM radio with RDS and FM recording, and a range of games with the option to download additional ones if required. Media files can easily be transferred to and from a computer by using the included USB (v2.0) port.

Extra applications include a useful organiser, Google search, widgets, voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input which saves time when writing text messages.

The unique design of the handset and the range of navigation options sets the Samsung B3410 apart from most other handsets on the market. This in itself is sure to win the handset many fans, as is its affordability and range of functions.
