An umbrella always reminds me of Mary Poppins. Her joyous adventures with the kids of Mr. and Mrs. George Banks, namely: Jane and Michael Banks are life changing. Every adventure is worth a life lesson to learn for the rest of your life. In which, we can really relate that whatever happens in our everyday life there is always a lesson to learn. Thus, real fun adventure of Mary Poppins on Broadway happens since it started the show.
Mary Poppins opened on December 2004 for the first in the West End. As we recall, West End is the central place of entertainment in UK with the biggest shopping area in Europe, the home of the UK theatre and film industry. No wonder there are numerous up-scale bars, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs in that place. The fist show was presented on such a lively place.
It was quite a fun adventure for the cast for they received two Olivier Awards for Best Actress and Best Theatre Choreography. Olivier Award or Laurence Olivier Award is presented annually by the Society of London Theatre to acknowledge excellence in professional theatre which is given for West End shows and other productions staged in London.
Later in November 2006, a Broadway production was opened with almost similar team members. This time there were seven Tony Awards nominations to the team. They won the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design. Tony Award is the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in theatre. It distinguishes achievement in live American theatre. The awarding happens once a year and the awards will be presented with American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League.
There were nominations also from Drama League Award and Drama Desk Award nominations. They won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical and at the same award winning body being the Outstanding Set Design of a Musical was also awarded to them at the same year 2007. This only means that Mary Poppins on Broadway really had a real adventure. They won and sometimes don’t but what matter is on how we perform our job.
There were international productions also and national tours. In fact, the adventure of Mary Poppins never stops because just last year in the month of July an Australian production was opened. It was reported that cast were Australia’s great performers in theatre field like Marina Prior.
Life adventure is the real fun adventure. We learn a lot of things on the way as way enjoy each moment just like what Mary Poppins has been teaching these kids in their adventure.
