The Nokia N97 smacks of sophistication and grandeur. It is a compact and nimble little handset which packs a real punch in the function arena. The phone is one in a long line of handsets from the renowned Nokia stable and this one seems to be ticking all the right boxes as interest and sales continue to rise. This is eminently understandable when reviewing the phone and its all encompassing features.

As a mark of the quality that Nokia are trying to instil into this phone, the camera is a 5 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. These are considered one of the best optics available and ensure clarity and sharpness of images when taken. The addition of auto focus to aid in taking the pictures as well as an LED flash, for illumination ensures the user has various tools at their disposal when needed. Video recording and playback has become a common feature on phones and this unit offers VGA quality video capture at 30 frames per second.

The phone comes with a 3.5 inch TFT resistive touch screen which is excellent. The screen is large enough to view images in clear and vivid colours due to its ability to display 16 million colours at 360 x 640 pixels in size. For data entry the phone comes with the aforementioned touch screen as well as the always useful handwriting recognition and if that is not enough, housed behind the screen is a pull out full QWERTY keyboard. Sensors are offered which include an accelerometer and proximity sensor, these help the user by automating certain tasks such as altering the aspect of images to saving power.

The Nokia N97 is ultimately a PDA smart phone style phone and as such uses at the core of its operation an ARM 11 434 MHz processor as well as the Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 operating system. Internet access is provided through both the HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections, whilst additional options are available with GPRS, EDGE, Blue tooth and USB. Musical entertainment is offered through the inclusion of an MP3 player and FM radio. Satellite navigation is offered and is integrated via its GPS with A-GPS support and Nokia maps function. The phone also comes with an internal memory of 32 Gb of storage.

This phone has already become a popular handset and will continue to become even more popular. The reason is that it satisfies the needs of the mobile phone user in more ways than one. Add to this the fact that the handset also comes in the form of the Nokia N97 White means that choice is available as well as a huge range of functionality.
