The Nokia N900 provides Skype integration

There are many facets to the Nokia N900, one of which is its Skype and Google talk VoIP integration. In amongst its many other features and functions this particular element offers the ability to make free phone calls which in the current economic climate is not to be sniffed at. Justifiably popular, the handset released in November 2009 offers a mesmerising level of functionality coupled with an impressive style.


This phone is one of only a few that utilises the Maemo 5 operating system, which has become synonymous with stability and reliability. In addition an Arm Cortex A8 600 MHz central processing unit is also provided, coupled with powerVR SGX graphics capabilities.


The Nokia N900 comes with a full QWERTY keyboard which is housed behind the main display screen. The screen is a TFT resistive touch screen that comes with proximity and accelerometer sensors as standard. The screen is able to display up to 16 million colours, which offers excellent colour reproduction within the confines of its 3.5 inch screen size. The screen operates at a pixel screen size of 800 x 480 pixels and can be utilised in either portrait or landscape mode.



Internal storage capacity of 32 GB, is impressive to say the least, especially considering this can be further expanded upon by utilising the built in microSD card slot, by a further 16 GB. Connectivity is provided by a myriad of options which include GPRS, blue tooth, infrared port and microUSB as well as EDGE. The handset also provides an extremely fast Internet connection through its HSDPA connection which operates at speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Coupled with its capability to connect to nationally available Wi Fi hotspots, through its Wi Fi connection, web browsing is both quick and enjoyable. GPS with A-GPS support is also included within the package and comes with OVI maps.


An MP3/MP4 player is included as well as stereo FM radio and transmitter which provides the means to listen to either downloaded music and video files or alternatively radio broadcasts from a wide variety of nationally available radio stations. The handset also comes with a TV-out, PDF document view, Adobe Flash player 9.4 and a useful photo editor. The photo editor can be utilised with the 5.0 mega pixel camera that is integrated into the unit which comes with Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus and a dual LED flash. In addition video can be recorded at WVGA quality which is 25 frames per second and comes with a video light as standard. A secondary camera is also provided which is VGA quality.



The Nokia N900 is an exceptionally useful handset which not only provides the means to perform numerous tasks whilst on the move but is also stylish much like its counterpart the Nokia 6760 .
