What can be said about the Nokia N900 that hasn't already been said. It has caused quite a stir due to its impressive level of functionality as well as suitably stylish design. Released in November 2009, it has already created waves within the mobile phone fraternity due to a number of factors, which include its exceptionally high speed internet access, in addition to its particularly responsive full QWERTY keyboard.

The unit comes with a 3.5 inch TFT resistive touch screen. The display screen offers excellent colour reproduction due to the fact that it is able to display 16 million colours and their variants within a pixel screen size of 800 x 480 pixels. One of the most endearing elements of this handset is its full QWERTY keyboard which simply slides out from behind the screen to provide an extremely responsive and useful means of entering data or text. The handset also provides accelerometer and proximity sensors as a means to automatically rotate imagery as well as save battery power by automatically shutting the unit down when not utilised for long periods.

As its central processing element, the Nokia N900 utilises the ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz central processing unit and also provides powerVR SGX graphics capabilities. Its operating system is the superb Maemo 5 operating system. Internal memory within this handset is 32 GB of storage with the option, should it be needed, of increasing it by up to 16 GB by utilising the microSD card slot.

The phone includes a variety of connection options which include blue tooth and microUSB as well as GPRS and EDGE. Internet access is provided at an impressive 10 Mbps by the HSDPA connection, whilst the Wi Fi option provides the ability to hook up to nationally available hotspots located in many general public areas. The GPS function provides satellite navigation, and also comes with A-GPS support and OVI maps.

One of the key elements of this handset is its Skype and Google talk and VoIP integration, which provides the ability to make free and cheap landline calls. An MP3/MP4 player is also provided as well as a PDF document viewer and a stereo FM radio with FM transmitter.

The camera provided with this handset is a 5.0 mega pixel camera which operates at 2576 x 1936 pixels and utilises Carl Zeiss optics. Auto focus, geo-tagging and a dual LED flash are also provided. For those who prefer video recording, this handset will provide that at WVGA quality and at 25 frames per second. In addition a secondary camera is also provided which records at VGA quality.

It is hard to find any additional functions that can be included within the Nokia N900. Its full QWERTY keyboard is one of its most endearing features, much like the Nokia 6760 . As a high specification mobile phone this handset is hard to beat.
