The Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Is An Appealing Handset

The Nokia 6700 Classic offers a range of functionality in a simply styled handset. Released in May 2009, the handset is sure to appeal to those looking for a functional handset. Whilst it may not offer such technology as touch screen navigation as many new handsets do, this in itself is sure to win over fans of more traditional technology. An appealing gold colour variant of the handset is now available.

The handset measures 109.8x45x11.2mm and weighs in at 116.5 grams. It is therefore a very comfortable handset to hold and use. The screen is TFT and measures 2.2 inches. Upto 16 million colours can be displayed at 240x320 pixels offering brightness and clarity of on screen images. An accelerometer sensor is built in to the handset sp certain applications can function according to the movement of the handset.

A variety of ringtone options allow users to customise their handset. As well as vibration, polyphonic ringtones can be downloaded and MP3 music files can be assigned as ringtones. A speakerphone system is included allowing hands free communication.


Internal memory in the 6700 Classic is 170MB as standard, and a 1GB memory card in pre-installed in the microSD slot. However, to increase storage of media files and other data, this can be upgraded to 16GB.

Several connectivity options keep the phone connected to networks when out and about. Primary means of network connection is class 32 versions of both GPRS and EDGE. Where 3G coverage is available, HSDPA can be utilized at speeds of up to 10Mbps, along with HSUPA at up to 2Mbps. Bluetooth v2.1 offers a means to share files and data with other compatible handsets in the same locality. GPS is included with A-GPS support, which operates alongside Nokia Maps.

The 6700 Classic is equipped with a built in digital camera boasting an impressive 5MP which operates at a pixel resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. This is accompanied by autofocus and an LED flash so quality photos can be taken with the minimum of effort even in lower lighting conditions. It can also shoot video in VGA quality at a rate of 15 frames per second, offering an alternative to taking still images.


The 6700 Classic has a built in media player which supports a variety of both music and video file formats. A micro USB (v2.0) port is located on the handset so it is a simple task to transfer files to and from a computer. Three pre-installed games are included along with the option to download extra ones if required. Stereo FM radio playback completes the list of entertainment features on the phone.

Additional applications include an organizer, voice command/dial, and T9 predictive text input. Several colour options of the handset are available. These are Gold, White Gold, Silver Metallic, Matte Metallic and Black Metallic. Whilst the technology may not be groundbreaking, it certainly offers perfect everyday functionality whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing.
