A white colour variant of the Nokia 5230 has recently been launched, offering further aesthetic appeal to this functional touch screen handset. With key features including a digital camera, versatile media player and 3G connectivity, the handset combines form and functionality.

Whilst this is not the most compact handset in the world, its size simply accommodates a large 3.2 inch TFT resistive touch screen. The size of the screen makes it comfortable to hold and use on the move. A pixel resolution of 360x640 displays 16 million colours ensuring high quality image display. A built in accelerometer sensor adapts the on screen image allowing it to be viewed in portrait and landscape depending on the orientation of the phone.

To customise the ringtones of the phones, users can assign MP3 music files as ringtones, so they can hear their favourite song whenever they have an incoming call. This function operates in conjunction with standard vibration. A 3.5mm audio jack and a speakerphone system provide options for hands free talking.

Class 32 EDGE and GPRS provide the main methods of connecting to networks. In areas covered by the 3G network, HSDPA is available at speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. For file sharing between compatible handsets in the same area, Blue tooth is installed as standard, in this case version 2.0. In order to hook up the phone to a PC a micro USB (v2.0) port in included. This allows files and data to be transferred to and from the phone and to back up data such as contact info. GPS with A-GPS support is included which allows applications such as Nokia Maps to function based on the location of the phone.

Several different formats of music and video files are supported by the phone's media player. As entertainment alternatives, a stereo FM radio player with RDS is included along with a selection of games with access to library of downloadable games.

The 5230 White has a camera boasting 2MP allowing reasonably good quality photos to be taken. It operates at a pixel resolution of 1600x1200 pixels and as an alternative to taking still images, it can shoot video. This is in VGA quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

A list of extra features adds to the functionality, including T9, voice memo and dial, photo editor and an organiser.

The handset is also available in Black, Purple and Pink offering an alternative colour scheme, which is sure to add appeal to this versatile handset.
