The Mentalist Pink Chanel Suit 3.6 Episode Review

The episode starts with the funeral of Federal Judge Fitz-William's mother in progress. Pauline requests that her daughter Sophie go and find her sister Abbey as she has not yet appeared at the funeral. When Sophie goes to Abbey's room she finds Abbey's boyfriend murdered on the floor. He had been stabbed in the back with a knife.

Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and agent Cho (Tim Kang) arrive on the scene with Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) nowhere to be found. As they investigate the murder of Sophie's boyfriend Austin the team realizes that Abbey hasn't yet been located. Due to the high ranking nature of the Judge and her estate the property remains under heavy security scrutiny by the security team. According to the head of security nobody saw Abbey leave the property after she check in the previous morning. Abbey being a prime murder suspect sends the team into a bit of confusion about her whereabouts.

When Patrick Jane finally arrives on the scene he is taken aback when the security guard asks him to go through the metal detector. Frustrated that his rank didn't get him through without a security check, Jane insists that the head of security go through the metal detector as well. When he does Jane puts coins in his pocket so he sets off the alarm. This scene alone is worth watching the show for.

The crowd is shocked when Patrick Jane announces that Abbey has most likely been murdered and is hidden somewhere on the estate. He confirms this after he tries to steal the rug from Pauline's office (because it resembled the size of an adult body) to see if he could get by security. When he was unable to break through the weakest point in the estate security he realized that there is no way that Abbey made it off the property.

Jane then makes a wild statement that he believes that Abbey is buried with Judge Pauline's mother in her casket. The timing of the speech was a classic Jane maneuver as well making it during the funeral ceremony. The family being quite upset by the thought of opening the casket agrees to humor Jane believing he is correct. Jane is proven wrong as the casket is opened by Dr. Saban to reveal only the body of the Judge's mother.

It wouldn't be The Mentalist with a Patrick Jane scheme. This time Jane and Lisbon with by hid out by the coffin and wait for the killer to show up. Dr. Saban appeared and confesses to killing Abbey by accidentally giving her an overdose while helping her with her drug addiction. When Abbey's boyfriend walked in after it happened Dr. Saban believed he had no other option but to murder him. The doctor was able to hide Abbey's body but need to get rid of it soon so it wouldn't be found during the investigation. Jane provided him with the idea and he got caught trying to execute it.
