The Cookie was one of LG's most successful handsets to date, thanks to its quirky looks and excellent functionality. The GD510 Pop is LG's attempt to overhaul the Cookie in order to compete with the new breed of mobile phones.

The GD510 Pop Black is a smaller handset than its predecessor. Measuring 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2, its smaller than the Cookie on all counts, and in terms of the weight, the 87g is very light for a phone of its class. On the front of the unit you will find the 3" LCD TFT touchscreen, capable of displaying a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. Thanks to the Pops more compact design, this screen does dominate the bulk of the front of the handset. In a bid to stand out from the crowd, LG have given this phone an asymetric look. Just a single multi function button can be found beneath the screen, and instead of placing this centrally, LG have positioned it to the bottom right hand side of the fascia. The screen has a very attractive mirrored finish when not in use, but the downside to this is it does affect the screen slightly in bright sunlight. To the right of the device there is yet another multi function button, a short press of which launchs a multi task facility, or holding it down takes you direct to the camera function.

The LG GD510 Pop Black has an integrated camera built in. This device is a 3 mega pixel snapper but unfortunately this does suffer from the lack of an auto focus or flash feature. This means photos are generally of a reasonable standard when taken in good, natural lighting conditions but quality does suffer otherwise. The capture of video footage is supported however, in a QVGA resolution and at a fairly impressive rate of 15 frames per second. In terms of the other multi media functions, the handset has some very nice touchs. LG's new image gallery feels very nice to use, enabling you to simply scroll through photo by lightly swiping the screen. With regards to audio playback the Pop displays any installed album art and can process a range of audio formats including MP3, WMA and AAC+. A range of preset on screen graphic equaliser settings allow the user to adjust the sound of the music to suit their own taste.

LG certainly seem to have struck gold with this model. Its eye catching looks coupled with its compact size is going to appeal to most people, especially the younger market. The inclusion of Social Networking shortcuts such as Bebo and Facebook also backs this up. If the GD510 Pop is half as popular as the 5 million + selling cookie then LG are ontop a winner.
