Due for release in the 1st quarter of 2010 the HTC Smart looks set to be a desirable handset. The phone itself measures up at 104mmX55mm, and is less than 13mm thick. It weighs in at just 108grams; ensuring use is comfortable and unhindered. The appearance of the phone is impressive to say the least. A sleek black facia and silver casing are separated by polished chrome trim.

The 2.8" TFT touch screen is able to display up to 256,000 colours at 240 x 320 pixels, ensuring a bright and vibrant display. The unit also boasts an in built accelerometer. This senses when the phone has been tilted and automatically rotates the content on the screen allowing the user to view the screen in both portrait and landscape forms.

Alert types on the smart will include both vibration and ringing with the option of MP3 and WAV ringtones. An in built speaker phone feature will allow users to communicate hands free. For talking on the move, a standard 3.5mm audio jack allows the use of hands free kits, and can also be used to listen to music via the use of headphones with a compatible jack.


The HTC Smart has a micro SD slot built in to the unit, which allows up to 16GB of storage, alongside the standard 256 MB of internal memory. This will allow plenty of room to store data and media files.
A HSDPA connection allows access to the internet with speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. Class 10 GPRS and class 10 EDGE are included, allowing for faster data transfer rates across areas with little or no 3G coverage.

Bluetooth version 2.0 is provided as standard with the HTC Smart, allowing users to share data with other Bluetooth enabled devices. A USB port (v2.0) is also included. This will allow users to synchronise with computers where tasks such as transferring music and video files can be performed.

The camera on the HTC Smart boasts 3.15 MP, which operates at a screen resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. Added features to the camera include an auto focus facility and an LED flash to ensure clear pictures in most lighting conditions. The ability to record video is also included.


A range of audio and video formats are supported by the HTC Smart's media player. Supported audio files include mp3, eAAC+, wav and wma9. The video formats of mp4, h.263, h.364 and wmv9 are catered for. A variety of games are included in the phone's entertainment credentials. Other features include a voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input.

The operating system on the Smart is called Brew Mobile and the phone makes use of a 300MHz processor. HTC's expertise in combining functionality with design really shows with the HTC Smart.
