The HTC HD Mini provides an ideal alternative to larger smartphones for those who prefer a more compact device. However don’t let the compact dimensions of this handset fool you; its spec list still includes a 5MP digital camera which can also shoot video as well as Wi-Fi internet connectivity and a versatile internal media player.

The operating system in the HTC HD Mini is Windows Mobile 6.5.3 which works in conjunction with a powerful 600MHz Qualcomm processor to handle demanding applications with ease and provides a fast and smooth user experience when operating the HTC Sense User Interface. This is a highly customisable UI which allows users to assign a number of homescreens with the application of their preference. The homescreen allows the most commonly used apps to be easily selected by sliding your thumb across the bottom.

As the name suggests, the HTC HD Mini is a compact handset measuring just 103.8x 57.7x 11.7mm and weighing in at a pocket friendly 110 grams. The appearance of the handset makes up a good part of its appeal, with a sturdy and functional yet modern and stylish look. The handset is finished in the same soft touch material as the Wildfire and Desire and feels comfortable to hold and use.

A versatile media player supports many different types of music and video file formats such as MP3 and MP4 amongst others. Other entertainment features include a selection of games and a stereo FM radio player. Social networking integration is a major part of the phone with dedicated applications for FaceBook and Twitter allowing users to instantly access their account.

Browsing the Web is a pleasure with the HTC HD Mini. Utilising Opera Mobile as its default browser a fast internet connection can be enjoyed thanks to 3G at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps (via HSDPA) or Wi-Fi connection where available. Bluetooth and micro USB ports make it easy to connect to other hardware devices allowing a number of tasks to be carried out.

A 5 MP camera is installed as standard which offers a means of taking great quality still images. This is thanks to a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944, and the camera can also shoot video in VGA quality. When you have shot your masterpiece, it can then be viewed in all its glory in up to 65K colours on the 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen which utilises a pixel layout of 320x 480, which also provides the dynamic and engaging means of navigating the HTC Sense user interface.

All in all, the HTC HD Mini is up there with the most advanced smartphones in terms of functionality and appeal, and is sure to find many fans thanks to its small size and big features.
