The Broadway musical 'Hair' is still very influential in the world of stage and film. In fact, it is undergoing a revival from Ghostlight Records. It is truly a landmark show and the musical theater movie soundtrack is one that everyone in America should experience at least once, if they can leave it at once. The original Hair recording from 1968 was re-released again in 2003 by RCA Victor. This included, on a separate CD, the recording of the 1967 Off-Broadway cast.

The musical theater movie soundtrack from the 1979 movie version is still a pop culture favorite. When compared to the other version, it more than holds it's own. The choreography in the movie was fantastic as well. When mixed with the soundtrack it was a 'happening' to say the least. Many find the pubic hair picture on the cover to be offensive. But it speaks of the defiance of that time. There are many versions of this Broadway musical turned movie available out there. Some songs have been added to specific versions, and others omitted. But the overall quality and message remains. As long as Hair lives, then the times that inspired will live on as well.

One of the biggest influences in the music of this famous Broadway musical is the sounds of Galt McDermot. His compelling melodious 'funk' is a defining characteristic of the musical production. The recent revival of Hair on Broadway has brought yet another score of reviews. Many feel that this new Broadway production has intensified the dramatic clarity of the former Central Park production. The music along with it's great choreography have become one of the most sought after Broadway musicals of our day. Ticket sales from the revival of Hair continue to rise.

Its director, Diane Paulus, and the choreographer, Karole Armitage, managed to make a wonderful and powerful theatrical fusion, with an expression of passion that saturates the whole production. It's been handled wonderfully and its message kept intact. Nothing is lost in the various versions of this Broadway musical turned movie success.

The current production of the Broadway musical is blessed with a most talented cast. As keeping with the attitudes of that day, there are those who question the commercial transfer of Hair. They wonder why someone would pay to see what was shown for free in the park. But the answer is clear; everybody doesn't live in New York. And even if they did, not everyone is able to make the show. Many see it as a heavy favorite for winning a Tony Award in the category of 'Best Revival of a Musical'. One thing for sure, this play, movie, and musical theater movie soundtrack, will be entertaining people for years to come. It's resilience has been proven, and it's future is sure.
