Released in August 2009, the Alcatel 800 offers a versatile range of features. A convenient QWERTY keyboard, a built in digital camera and versatile media player are some of the included functions.
An aesthetically pleasing white version of the handset has recently been added, offering something different for those who see their mobile phone as a fashion statement.
The 800 White measures 111x58.2x13.9mm and weighs in at 102g. Its relatively slim profile and light weight make it comfortable to hold and use. The 2.2 inch TFT screen is capable of displaying up to 256,000 colours at 320x240 pixels, ensuring bright, vibrant images on screen. A convenient full QWERTY keyboard allows efficient text entry when composing SMS messages.
Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages by vibration and ringing, with the option to utilize MP3 music files as ringtones. A speakerphone is built in allowing hands free communication. 20 MB of internal storage is provided, however, up to 4 GB of storage is available by utilizing the microSD slot and installing a larger memory card.
The primary means of connectivity is thanks to Class 12 versions of both GPRS and EDGE. Bluetooth version 2.1 is installed as standard allowing direct transfer of files and data with other Bluetooth enabled devices in the same vicinity.
The 800 White is equipped with a digital camera boasting 2 MP allowing reasonably high quality photos to be taken. This camera operates at a pixel resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. It also has the ability to shoot video as an alternative to taking still images.
Video and music files can be stored and played in MP4 and MP3 formats respectively, thanks to the media player. Media files can easily be transferred to and from a computer by using the included USB (v2.0) port. Alternative entertainment options are a built in stereo FM radio with RDS and 2 games. Several other features are also included in the handsets package of applications. These include a document viewer which is compatible with Word, Excel, PPT and PDF documents, a useful organizer, voice memo recorder and T9 predictive text input.
Alternative colour options of the handset include Pink, Blue and Chrome. With the number of mobile phone users these days who view their phones as a fashion statement increasing, there is sure to be a colour to suit the tastes of many users. Whilst this is definitely no Smartphone, it certainly provides a useful range of features for everyday use.
