Even though it can be difficult to stay in touch with family and friends, there’s really no excuse for not doing so in today’s information age. With technological advancements like the internet and all of the communication opportunities it brings, it’s easier than ever to get in touch with the people you care about. When the number of social networks and instant communication tools that you can use exist, keeping up to date with your family and friends can be done in a multitude in ways – meaning there’s really no excuse if you’re still not doing it.

One of the great things about the internet is the many options it gives us when it comes to choosing how to talk to people. You can use simple email for starters, to send family and friends messages about what you’re up to and ask them how they are – but that’s just the beginning. As well as standard email communications, you can also make your conversations live by switching on an instant messenger, which allows you to type messages back and forth with your buddies in real time. That means you’re both sitting at your computers and typing to each other with the messages sending and receiving pretty much instantly.

A step up from that is the voice conversation, which is like having a phone conversation over the internet – and this can be further upgraded to a video call, which is exactly what it sounds like: your face beamed over the internet to the face of whomever you’re talking to, and vice versa.

All of this, combined with the vast amount of social media websites that operate online goes to show just how truly simple it is to keep up with family and friends via the web. Whether you live abroad or are simply too busy to keep in touch with everybody, the incredible technological advances the internet has seen since it was first created are truly exceptional. And best of all? Pretty much all of the above methods of communication are free, whether you’re shooting instant messages back and forth or saying hi to your parents over a VoIP or video chat. That means you won’t have to worry about breaking the bank just in order to stay in touch with the people you care about the most. Why not try all of the different ways to communicate with friends and family online out for yourself and see which works best for you? You can be sure that you’ll never struggle to stay up to date again.
