Slave units
In the usual set-up, the flash connected to the camera is the master light. When this unit fires, sensors, known as "slaves", attached to any other lights, fire their-flash units in synchronization. This removes the need for all flash units in a multi-light set-up to be cabled to the camera.

Continuous light sources
Tungsten-halide lights give a high output but also a great deal of heat and rather a hard lighting quality. HMI lamps offer high output at lower operating temperatures but they are expensive and complicated lights. Professional fluorescent lights are a good solution for digital photography: the light is diffused, colour temperature is stable, and they run cool compared with tungsten units.

A very compact and lightweight head is the benefit of separating the power unit from the lamp. This unit packs a powerful flash output, as well as having a strong modelling light to allow you to preview the fall of shadows.

Generator
A separate generator keeps controls and the power supply separate from the lamp itself. This arrangement allows for faster recharging times and more flexible control of the power output.

Touch-sensitive controls and digital read¬outs of power on this monobloc unit help to ensure consistent and repeatable results - important factors for professional set¬ups. Digital controls allow changes to be made in very fine increments.

Remote control unit
A further advantage of the digital control of flash power and mode settings is that units can be set remotely. This handset, working much like a television remote, can control up to eight different units.
