Splendour in the Grass

Splendour in the Grass has done it again. This is one of Australia’s most popular music events of the year. Scheduled for the second year in a row at Woodfordia in South East Queensland, this much anticipated event will span the week-end of Friday, July 29th through Sunday, July 31st.

The event promises to live up to the expectations it has created in the past, and expects to entertain a record-breaking crowd this year. Again as an added bonus, the pre-concert set-up and entertainment of the Tipi Forest will begin on Thursday evening just before sunset and will continue every evening for the duration of the concert.
This year because of the huge crowd that is expected to attend, Splendour in the Grass is hosting a creative carpool competition. The car must be decorated in full costume, and must have at least three passengers. The competition is entitled "My Car’s a Unicorn, What’s Yours?" Lessen the frustration of heavy traffic. Keep the air cleaner. Lucky prize winners will receive coveted tickets for next year’s concert.

The entertainment for the week-end promises to be the best ever. This year an array of the music you want to hear plus original and creative dance acts will take the stage. Enjoy the innovation of Alice Space Doll, the Black Seeds, Blunt Instrument, Children Collide, Coldplay, Danny T, Kanye West, DJ Shadow, Kaiser Chiefs, Cloud Controls, Yelle, Guineafowl, Jane’s Addictions, Jinja Safari, Modest Mouse, the Middle East, Noah and the Whale, Bluejuice, Lanie Lane, Liam Finn, Leader Cheetah, the Kills, the Mars Volta, Mogwai, N-Zed, the Vaccines, Oh Mercy, Operon, Phrase, Regina Spektor, Slinky, Uberhammer, Wild Beasts, and Zenna, to name just a few. Look forward to Triple J Unearthed winner to be announced.

Make a point to visit the Global Village. Experience a true global feeling as you come in contact with cultures of the world through a display of arts and crafts. Participate in dance workshops, learn more about the mystical healing arts of other cultures, be part of the unforgettable experience of harmonic chanting, and take part in the unifying late night world music jams.

The Global Village will also sponsor the traditional Splendour Peace Parade, encouraging everyone to participate. Find yourself in the Peace Parade. Share yourself. Be a drummer or a twirler or a dancer or a singing or a walker. Be you. Be a part. Be one with others.
You will see the return of the Temple Stage with a wonderful collection of workshops featuring what you need to start the day out right and keep it going. Participate in a dance workshop that prepares you for the day with early morning yoga for body and your mind. Later choose a dance session that will rev you up and get you ready to move. Take part in the drum workshops.

Mark your calendars for Splendour in the Grass 2011, July 29th - 31st.
