An exclusive of Brush Research Manufacturing, the Flex-Hone® Tool is a proven, all-in-one solution for your finishing, deburring, and edge-blending needs. Imperfections from prior machining processes are quickly and easily removed. The Flex-Hone® Tool is available in a variety of sizes, abrasives, and grits, to properly finish or deburr any base material.

The original Flex-Hone® Tool was developed in 1972 to deglaze cylinder walls in automotive engines. Since that time, the Flex-Hone has uncovered many new cross hole deburring and surface finishing applications. The Brush Research Flex-Hone has been used in nuclear power applications, aerospace applications, hydraulics, pneumatics, firearms, high performance auto and motorcycle racing, musical instruments, consumer product manufacturing, computer assembly and manufacturing. The list goes on and on and grows every day.

The defining characteristic of the Flex-Hone® Tool is its flexible honing process, which has distinct advantages. The independent suspension of each abrasive globule lends to the tool's ability to be self-centering, self-aligning to the bore, and self-compensating for wear.

The Flex-Hone® can also create a superior, cross-hatched plateau finish. The cross-hatch pattern aids in lubrication control and retention, longer seal life, and reduced seepage in hydraulic and pneumatic applications.

Standard small diameter applications

Small Diameter Flex-Hone®
The Flex-Hone® can be used in a variety of applications including deglazing or surface finishing. It can also be used to simultaneously deburr and finish cross drilled holes in a single set-up.

BC Flex-Hone® • 4mm to 3/16" diameter w/ 6" OAL • 5mm to 3” w/ 8" OAL
For any type of cylinder, anywhere from 4mm to 3" in diameter, the BC Flex-Hone is a great choice. It's designed for cross hole deburring and surface finishing in valve guides, pneumatics, hydraulics, wheel cylinders, brake cylinders. Stocked in Silicon Carbide abrasive from 120-320. Additional grits and abrasive types are available.

DBC Flex-Hone®  •  1-1/2" to 3-1/8" diameter
Originally developed to deglaze and finish disc brake cylinders, the DBC Series Flex-Hone can also be used when a shorter, more compact tool is required.

Diamond Flex-Hone®• 4mm to 3/16" diameter w/ 6" OAL•
5mm to 20mm w/ 8" OAL
Designed for use on harder materials such as carbide, ceramic, and space age alloys, the Diamond Flex-Hone® is made for surface finishing and cross hole drilling. Brush Research offers this tool in three different diamond mesh selections. In addition to these sizes, other sizes are available by special order.

Standard and heavy duty applications

GB Flex-Hone® • 3-1/4" to 4-5/8" diameter w/ 13-1/2" OAL
Commonly used to finish and deglaze block cylinders or liners, these standard duty Flex Hones represent a tremendous value on a cost per cylinder basis.

GBD Flex-Hone® • 3" to 4-1/2" diameter w/ 13-1/2" OAL
5" to 8" diameter with 17-1/2" OAL
These heavy-duty Flex-Hones are commonly used for block cylinders or liners, marine engines, oil and gas pipes, stationery diesel, and many other applications. These larger diameters are made with twice the filaments and abrasive globues as the standard duty GB hones. The GBD heavy duty Flex-Hones are highly recommended for heavy duty or high production applications.

GBD Woodcore Flex-Hone® • 8" to 18" diameter w/ 34" OAL
These are constructed using an aluminum sleeve over a lightweight wood core. The drive shaft is a steel hex construction.

Extra heavy duty large diameter Flex-Hones

Even in applications that require heavy duty brushing action, Brush Research's cylinder honing tool continues to get that superior surface finish you desire.

GBDX Flex-Hone® • 19" to 36" diameter
These Flex-Hones are available to order by bore size. The Extra Heavy Duty GBDX Series Flex-Hone tools are constructed using a steel drum. Replaceable honing sections allow one drum to cover a range of bore diameters. They also allow multiple abrasive types or grits. Depending on the drum diameter, shaft diameters can range from 3/4" to 1-1/4". Replacement honing sections can be ordered as sets, saving money by reusing the center core.
