The Sony Ericsson Yari is a phone for all seasons, in respect of its level of functionality which is considerable. Released in September 2009, this handset which is a slider phone style handset, offers a huge variety of features within a stylish casing. From its impressive TFT screen through to its QVGA quality video recording capabilities, this phone provides the most popular elements found in most mobiles.


If entertainment is important to you, this unit will not let you down. It provides an MP3/MP4 player as well as a variety of applications including trackID music recognition, shake control and SensMe. The player supports all major audio and video file formats. The phone comes with an internal memory of 60 MB, however some packages come with a 1 GB card included which utilises the microSD card slot provided. Memory storage can be further enhanced up to 16 GB by utilising the aforementioned slot.


The Sony Ericsson Yari comes with a 2.4 inch TFT colourful display screen. It is able to display 256,000 colours at a pixel screen size of 240 x 320 pixels. The large number of available colour variations that can be displayed ensures that imagery displayed is faithfully reproduced. In addition an accelerometer sensor is provided which automatically orientates imagery dependent upon the aspect of the image and the handset.



Connectivity is provided by a multitude of connection options which include GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, Blue tooth and USB. Internet access is provided at fast speeds as well as the ability to connect to a variety of devices and perform numerous tasks seamlessly, such as file sharing or downloading files and synchronisation with a PC.


A 5 mega pixel camera, operating at a pixel resolution of 2592 x 1944 is provided with this unit. In conjunction with an LED flash, the handset also provides auto focus, face detection and an image stabiliser. Geo-tagging, a common form of referencing imagery by location is also provided. The handset also provides the ability to take video footage at QVGA quality and at 30 frames per second, as well as providing a video light for illumination of subject matter. A secondary camera is provided which offers video call capabilities.


The Sony Yari comes in two main colours, Achromatic black and Cranbury white. The handset also comes with a variety of games included within the package as well as the ability to download polyphonic, MP3 and AAC ringtones. It measures 100 mm x 48 mm wide and is 15 mm thick, whilst weighing 115 g. The handset offers excellent functionality, whilst retaining an air of sophistication. Its popularity is down to a simple mix of effective functionality and aesthetically pleasing styling.
