The 23d SJOBA Thunderbolt Sub-Himalayan Rally finished on an exhilarating note as the rallyists roared into the finish line at St. Johns School, just a few seconds and minutes apart. Earlier, the rallysists had been given a ceremonial flag-off at Lawrence School, Sanawar by the Headmaster Praveen Vasisht. The rally kicked off with the super special stage of the challenge rally at the Exhibition Ground, Sector 34. On Day 2, the rally flagged off from St John's School and reached Koti Resorts for the night halt.

Over 2 days, the rallyists had covered nearly 540 kilometres of challenging and adventurous hilly terrain in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. In fact, of the 71 participants in the Challenge Rally, only 46 (17 gypsies, 6 car, 26 motorbikes) were able to complete the full track and reach the finish line at St. Johns School. Earlier, two ace rallyists Suresh Rana and Shuchi Thakur had to bow out after their gypsies developed mechanical problems. In the TSD Rally, 29 of the 30 participants completed it including the team of Gul Panang. The rallyists were all charged up and excited. "The SJOBA-Thunderbolt Rally is really good as it gives us all sorts of tracks - fast-metalled tarmac, axle-breaking gravel paths, steep climbs and descents as well as sharp turns and curves," stated ace Indian Army team member Major Brar.

"Indeed this is in sharp contrast to other rallies where we get only one type of track… either desert or steep mountains. Everyone should participate here," stated Indian Army team Lt. Col. Suhag. "A great thing about this rally was the extremely cordial yet competitive atmosphere; it really got everyone putting in their best. The hospitality of SJOBA was amazing and all of us had great fun," added Harkaran Singh. The bikers as well as the participants in the TSD category were just as excited. "It was an excellent experience," they stated, "and we will have life long memories of the rally."

A slight change in the route this year resulted in more challenge," feel participants. Team leader of the Lt Col Suhag said this year the teams had to cross fast paced tracks of Morni, as the participants raced to Koti Resorts. "Being fast paced tracks and sharp curves, the Morni route was a test of the real skill of drivers," said Lt Col Suhag. The rallyists included Suresh Rana, Sunny Sidhu, Abhishek Mishra and Harkaran Singh.
