SD Card stands for Secure Digital Card, which is an ultra small flash memory card. The Secure Digital Card Association (SDCA) approves the SD card, which is flash memory card standard. It is designed to deliver high-capacity memory in a small size. Sd cards are very helpful to store memory. It is used in many small portable devices like audio players, digital video camcorders, handheld computers, digital cameras, and mobile phones. It is available in capacities between 16 Megabytes and 1 Gigabyte. Usually, an SD card measures 32 x 24 x 2.1 mm and the weighs of SD card is around 2grams.

MiniSD, microSD, SDHC are included in other SD Card Association formats. SDHC is not fully well-matched with the format that it extends. It is said that if your SD memory card contain greater the capacity, it will transfer the data rapidly. Flash memory is just as a memory, which is used in memory sticks or flash drives. But, flash memory cards can be formatted, as per various specifications. Nowadays, there are various Digital devices, which are designed to be well-matched with one of the available card formats.

Specific card format of "SD" is based on the older Multi-Media Card (MMC) specification while the component of the SD memory card is a copyright protection scheme assembled into the chip. To keep protected material from being excessively copied, Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM) is envisioned. With the help of SD memory card, we can store and transfer images, music, video and other data from a portable device to a PC. Many people like to buy several smaller capacity SD memory cards to organize their library of data.

Day by day, innovations are increasing in electronic market. So, now some newer computers contain a card reader, which is made for the SD memory card, or capable of reading various formats. MiniSD and microSD cards are also available as the standard SD memory card. These cards are smaller than other cards and not compatible with standard SD memory card slots. At the top left, the SD memory card might have a protective lock-switch.
