While August is getting closer to the end of the warm summer months, you can still take advantage of the warm summer weather for your August birthday. Plan some fun activities to get kids and adults enjoying the weather for what could be the last time before school starts.

Invitations
August birthday invitations can be just as vibrant as any summer months. Pick bold, bright colors and accents that will highlight the mild weather and summer colors. A beach themed invitation works great, as would a pool party invitation or even a summer sports themed birthday invitation.

August is often a month for family vacations. Since the kids are still out of school many families choose to head out of town for a family trip. Make sure you get your birthday invitations in the mail early to avoid any conflicts. You probably won't be able to pick a date that will suit absolutely everyone, but at least you can try to accommodate as many guests as possible.

Outdoor activities
Be sure to plan on lots of outdoor activities for your august birthday party. But make sure you've got some structure. A dozen children running around your house and yard is not an ideal situation for anyone. If sports are not on the agenda, maybe some fun contests, finger painting or even a small petting zoo - if your budget allows - can make your august birthday a hit. Make a note on your birthday invitation about your plans so kids con come dressed in appropriate attire.

One thing is a must as you party under the August sun - sunscreen. Don't forget to slather kids and adults with the right SPF to avoid too much sun. Sunburn is never a good party favor.

August menu and dessert treats
Many may have had their fill of hot dogs and hamburgers after the 4th of July and many other summer picnics. Pick some fun seasonal menu items that are unique and still kid friendly. Try a simple mac and cheese served in a small disposable cup. This is tasty for kids and is perfect for ‘grab and go' as they enjoy the activities of the party. A PB&J can be another great option. While it's not fancy, it can be perfect for a kid on the go.

For dessert, skip the traditional cake and opt for a cool ice cream cake or a sundae bar. Stock the ice cream bar with fruits, chocolate sprinkles and whipped topping; whatever you and your birthday kid can think of. And soon, making your own sundae is the hit of the party. This is definitely an outdoor activity. Kids will focus on the ice cream and might not be the tidiest guests. After the sundae bar, you might want to plan a water activity - swimming, a run through the sprinkler or ‘slip and slide' to wash off sticky kids.

August is a great summer month to celebrate your birthday. Gather friends and family for one last party before the kids go off to school for the year and the summer weather gives way to fall.
