The Rhino Tuff HC8024 enjoys the competitive advantage of being the only double loop wire closer on the market that can handle twenty four inch documents. It has many other capabilities as well, and here we will take a look at this machine and list for you what we consider to be its advantages and disadvantages.

Strengths:

  1. One obvious strength of the HC8024 is that is stands as the only twenty four inch double loop closer that is out there on the market. This machine can close twin loop, WireBind, spiral-o, double loop, and wire-o spines in virtually any diameter and in lengths up to twenty four inches.

  2. We really liked that the HC8024 includes a very handy slide out table that is located on the front. Surprisingly enough, there is not another wire closer currently on the market that includes a document table. We found that it made it a whole lot easier to deal with larger format documents like calendars and music books.

  3. The process of adjusting the closer for the different sizes of wire is remarkable easy on this machine. There are two big, obvious knobs that make the process extremely simple. What we are really impressed with is the fact that we could use this machine to work with wires as small as three sixteenths and as large as an inch and a quarter. With this machine, it matters not at all whether the spine in question is 2:1, 3:1 or nineteen loop wire combs. The versatile HC8024 can tackle them all.

  4. Just as we have all come to expect from Rhino products, the HC8024 is of all metal construction. That includes both the chassis and the working parts. We can see no reason that the HC-8024 wouldn't last you a number of years, even in a high production stetting.

Weaknesses:

  1. We found that the operation of the HC8024 was just a little bit unwieldy, in that it requires that both hands be used in the process. There are two handles on the machine, and we can see how it had to be designed this way, but it does make the HC8024 a little harder to operate that some of the other wire closers that are available. To get a good closing, you must place the wire so that you can be sure that it won't move during the process. It's not impossible, just a little tricky.

  2. This is a binding machine that is capable of binding just about any size of document that you are going to need it to. The one exception is that it can't be used with one and a half inch binding spines. This is not a very commonly seen size of wire, but we just thought we should mention it.

  3. The capacity to handle 24" documents is a great thing, but it does mean that you will be required, naturally, to purchase 24" wire. This is a little bit of a specialty item, and is sometimes hard to find, not to mention somewhat expensive.
