There was a female artist who, as a child, loved drawing horses as much as she loved riding them. Early training combined with the artist's many years of experience has led her to one career which involves painting horses and other subjects of the natural world. Images of dogs, hens, horses, and reindeer can be seen in her pastel and watercolor paintings.

At the time when her family moved to the present county from Philadelphia, she was 11. She had a father who was a commercial artist who painted as a hobby just like her mother and sister. What is considered to be real important to an artist by her father is drawing. Those details are evident in the structure of the animals she paints.

What she does is use cats and dogs as subjects since she loves painting animals. She and her loving husband have two large dogs and a cat at their present home. There are times when she also paints pets for private commissions.

What distinctly stands out in her paintings is light from the bright white of daylight to the darker amber hues of evening. She said she cares a lot about having a sense of light in her paintings. Such is a reason for her making use of watercolor. She finds watercolor to be a series of transparent washes that can go over pieces of paper. White paper glows when the paint is applied. With the use of oil paint, there is another fashion in creating light. Letting light be revealed is a matter of painting everything around it.

What is necessary when artists use watercolor is to paint around the white. When painting in oil, the artist must first paint in the dark shadows, adding the light later. When it comes to challenges in her career, the artist wants to take on luminosity in oil paintings at some point. As she said, she loves the impressionists and would love to have some time to spend painting in oil.

It is her move from the former town to the present location at the countryside that serves as her inspiration today. As she explores the back roads, she takes photographs of the old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills. In general, what she is concerned with involves old farmhouses being torn down. In the hopes of acknowledging and protecting the old houses, she finds it urgent to paint them. The historic architecture matters a lot to her.

Considering the passions of this artist, still life paintings are included. What she subtly uses are texture and detail rather than painting using realism or a photographic style. As much as focusing on the detail, her paintings of pets also focus on the animal's facial expressions. She also attended the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore other than going to a known school of art. For much of her career, she worked as a nurse but she has been painting professionally since the age of 25. Through the ensuing years, she built up her painting reputation especially in areas covering florals, architectural subjects, portraits, and pets. One day a week, she is a nurse.
