A Podcast is an audio broadcast saved as an MP3 file. The MP3 file can be downloaded to a computer and then to an iPod or any other type of MP3 player. There are all kinds of music-related podcasts available online already. There is always an opportunity for more as long as you focus on a niche or do a great job of marketing to get your name out there. There are lots of opportunities for educational podcasts as people like to learn about things of interest at their convenience - why not listen to an hour on Search Engine Optimization while working out on the treadmill! There are podcasts where the visitor can listen to the broadcast live, or download it into an MP3 player such as an iPod, or even a cell phone, and listen to it at a later time. Usually a podcast will feature one type of broadcast, or “show,” and will add new episodes daily, weekly, or monthly. A podcast is receivable to anyone at any time. It is much more intimate and interactive than a traditional blog.

You can offer your podcasts through your own site or podcast directories. You can also consider developing a podcast directory to provide access to a broad range of podcasts. With this you could charge a fee to host the podcast, or include it for free with a view to making your money with affiliate programs, banner advertising, sponsorship, and subscription opportunities.

A podcast is a great idea for someone who loves to write and speak passionately about any given topic of shared interest. If you have a great voice, you can provide podcasting services for various industries.

Podcasts are pretty simple. Make sure to keep your broadcasts clear and remember the audience the whole time you are composing podcasts; make sure you continue to appeal to the same niche of listeners; and watch for other sites encroaching on your content. It happens all the time. Have a detailed Web traffic analysis package on the server on which your site is hosted so that you can show advertisers accurate information about your site traffic.

If you are providing educational content in your podcast, there is opportunity to charge a fee. For example if I developed podcasts of different Internet marketing techniques, I would charge a fee for people to download the podcasts.
