Plan in action
To help the more than 200,000 children, women and men in these camps, Plan will:
Distribute jerry cans
Provide training on management and proper use and storage of scarce water
Organize spraying campaigns to prevent disease
Provide health education training to community health workers so they can conduct house to house training and follow up Provide medical care for the new people arriving at the camps.

With a grant from the Canadian Embassy and a grant from partner UNICEF, Plan will continue to expand activities in five "Child Friendly Spaces." Every day, each Child Friendly Space has between 150 and 200 children. These spaces are critical to creating some sort of normalcy and sense of safety for children, and Plan will create three new additional ones in Zamzam Camp. Plan will also conduct vocational training for young women and orientation of community leaders, women and youth on child protection and other rights issues.

Since the eruption of the armed conflict in 2003, the Darfur region has been witnessing a massive humanitarian disaster, with 400,000 people killed.
An estimated three million people remain affected by the conflict, which has driven almost two million people away from their homes and villages to the urban areas seeking refuge. Since then, they have been temporarily housed in camps throughout Darfur.
