Today, paper is manufactured from the plant, animal and all the waste products which are of no use, and it’s biodegradable too. A strong comment in favor of polythene comes that it can be recycled, but there is a limit to that recycling. As a matter of fact, plastic needs thousands of years for degradation (well that’s too long...). Yes, there is something called biodegradable plastic, but again its mixture of wood and plastic. So anyhow the use of paper is required, then why not stand alone paper. (I don’t think that there is some status symbol attached with the term ‘plastic’). Though if we talk about the durability factor, then yes, paper bags are not that much durable but, they serve their purpose, and that’s what we want, we don’t want them to last for ages and so be transferred from one legacy to other. Reusable bags save 700+ bags over the span of their lifetime. The paper bags can be recycled far more than that of polythene bags.
With my post I am not defying the fact that paper bags do have some dark side, they do have. But here, the concern is that how we can use the best option and can serve beneficial towards the nature. At the end, I just want to conclude that, as a part of this globe, we should take initiative individually rather than waiting for the concern authorities, as we together make a nation not authorities.
