The recently launched Nokia X6 is the first of two 32GB models to make it onto the O2 network, joining the Blue and Silver edition this new Red and Black colour variant can now be connected to a good range of O2 pay monthly contract tariffs from free.

Just as the manufacturer announces the release of a cut down Nokia X6 16GB model in a variety of colour schemes their larger 32GB model has finally made it to market, the blue edition of this latest music phone was launched as an Orange network exclusive back in December of last year and is also now being offered as a SIM Free and unlocked mobile phone.

The X6 is from the new X-Range of Nokia phones that has taken over from the orignial XpressMusic name after the last ever model was launched called the Nokia 5230, a mid range touch screen phone that is an affordable alternative to the popular but more expensive Nokia 5800.

The design of the handsets has also changed with the manufacturer opting for more squared corners and a more sleek overall format, sporting a large 3.2 inch touch screen as also found in the N97 Mini the Nokia X6 concentrates on both music and video playback and download as well as its advanced 5.0 mega pixel camera with Carl Ziess lens.

As far as music phones go, there is not a great deal of competition in the current market place for this advanced model, with a sliding design rather than a touch screen there is the Sony Ericsson W995 which is also a music focused phone with a slightly better resolution camera at 8.1 mega pixels but the different design format will not appeal to the new touch screen loving masses.

Also available in the Sony Ericsson Aino which although again offers a better camera the touch screen is not fully functional and only operates for certain functions.

The main competition will no doubt comes from within the manufacturers own portfolio with the release of the Nokia X6 16GB, this new model offers all of the same great features found in the original X6 devices but strips the memory back from 32GB to 16GB to keep the price down as well as offer different colour schemes as well as pre-loaded goodies such as the entire Gavin & Stacey series 3.

The 16GB X6 will still hold an impressive 5,500 music tracks which will be more than enough for most, however it is not due to be released until mid April which may be a little too long for those dedicated mobile music fans to hold out.
