REVIEW - "Put Your Homework in myHomework"

myHomework is an app meant to help students keep track of homework assignments. Each assignment is given a title, assigned a class, described as a type and given a due date. Students can add notes, or comments for each assignment as well. After the entering is done, the assignment is added to a list. myHomework will sort homework by title, class, type or due date. It also provides reminders of upcoming due dates and color codes assignments that are due within one day as well as assignments that are past due.

Entering assignments is a bit tedious, but the only required fields are the title and the due date, which can really cut down on entering time. A student could easily just enter in "math" and some page numbers for the title along with a due date and be done. The sample assignment shows detailed notes, which seems a bit unrealistic. Students are probably rushed to enter assignments and all that typing is impractical.

The power of myHomework is its ability to remind students of upcoming due dates. The app colors the homework differently, and will remind users with an icon reminder counter. When an assignment is complete, users can mark it as such. The developer says that the upcoming new version of myHomework will also feature a calendar view mode. This will be a nice addition as currently myHomework only lists assignments. For the student who visualizes dates on a calendar, this current form is difficult to adapt to.

The layout of myHomework resembles the pages of a notebook and the menu is accessed as sticky notes. It's a cute and clever way to make the screens of this app meant to appeal to student users.

The average student user will probably find this app to be most useful in planning out large projects. Parts of the project could even be entered as separate assignments. myHomework has the capability to help a student plan and pace any large project. As far as keeping track of small, daily assignments, like math problems or worksheets, the process of entering assignments in myHomework could be too slow for students. Someone with many assignments in many different classes might find it to be useful, but for someone with just a few assignments myHomework would be more of a novelty than a tool.
