"Today's new DVD releases include Disney - Pixar's "Up" and The Ugly Truth. I personally loved both movies and highly suggest getting either one of them.

Up is definitely a stocking stuffer I'll give away this year. The story has a great message about how it's never to late to follow your dreams - a message that my husband and I have followed ourselves and try to encourage those around us to keep in mind. It's easy to let life get in the way of your goals, plans, and dreams - but the movie Up reminds us that it's never to late.

I will admit that this movie pushes on your emotions. When I took my son to see this in the theater we both got a little choked up because they did such a great job of building your bond in Carl and his wife and you see their happiness. When she passes - you feel his loneliness and sadness. On the flip side, I felt the director did an excellent job by countering those sad depressing feelings with laughter and joy through Carl & Russell's adventure through the clouds. This is a movie I am sure my son will watch over and over again - thank goodness we don't have the wear and tear that VHS tapes had back in the day.

Side Note: in the movie is a lovable dog names Dug. The DVD has a special Animated Short Film called Dugs Special Mission. I haven't watched it yet, but I've always enjoyed Pixar's animated short films (my son too).

Next up is "The Ugly Truth" with Katherine Heigl & Gerard Butler. I put my cards on the table now and tell you that I already own 27 Dresses, Knocked Up, and was a fanatic for Roswel (one of her early TV roles). My husband and I also love Gerard Butler's action roles - so this movie seemed to be a perfect fit for us. I was a little hesitant of how Gerard would do when he wasn't kicking butt and taking names, but I felt he played this role really well (and the accent sure helps :)

In this movie, Katherine plays Abby the producer for a show that Gerard who plays Mike is a sexist man that tells women "the real truth" about men and how they think. The battle between his sexist remarks and her uptight over-controlling personality lead them into a challenge where Mike promises to get Abby a date with her dreamy doctor if she just follows what his advice. This challenge leads her down a path of risque but hilarious path. This isn't a movie I'd watch with the family, but it's a hilarious chick flick that has a storyline that your other half can enjoy too.

I want to hear from you - Let me know which new dvd release you picked up and what you thought."
