The first printing of Magic: The Gathering was Alpha, which was released last July 1993. The total number of Alpha was around 2.6 million cards and was printed only in limited number. Beta Card was released before long Alpha was already sold out in the market.

If you look at it, both Alpha and Beta Cards had almost the same cards. However there are 2 missing cards that were unintentionally left out the final printing, this Circle of Protection: Black and Volcanic Island. These were then corrected in the following printing of Beta, including those numbers of misprints. Then again, Alpha is considered unique because of its noticeably rounded corners on all of the cards unlike any other Magic: The Gathering set.

The first printing of Alpha contains the Power 9 exceptionally important cards. Black Lotus, Mox Pearl, Mox Sapphire, Mox Jet, Timetwister, Time Walk, Mox Emerald, and Mox Ruby are considered the Power 9 cards of Magic: The Gathering. In addition, Alpha Cards also include Dual Lands' first printing, excluding the Volcanic Island. On the other hand the 9 Dual Lands printed in Alpha are the following: Badlands, Undergrounds Sea, Savannah, Plateau, Taiga, Tropical Island, Tundra, Bayou and Scrubland.

Type I players and card collectors value Alpha a lot. Before, players could not play Alpha Cards simultaneously with other printings because of its distinctive shaped corners. However, at present this card is already improved very well, with its colored and graphic sleeves and corners concealed thereby leading to a better game.
