The Masaai Mara, also known as The Mara is a vast game reserve that lies in the South-western part of Kenya, East Africa. It is to the north of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. The name of the reserve comes from the Masaai people, who are the traditional inhabitants of the area. The reserve boasts a bevy of beauty; circles of trees, savanna, scrubs, and cloud shadows. It also has a big population of animals like the big cat, zebra, gazelle and the wildebeest, which migrate at will to and from Serengeti every year.

The park is one of world's best game reserves. Most people know it for the exceptional wildebeest migration that occurs from July to October. It involves nearly 1.3 million wildebeest crossing from Serengeti into Kenya with predators on hot pursuit. It is a breathtaking scene that forms one of the wonders of the world. If you want to meet your expectations when visiting the Masaai Mara, then coming around during the great migration is a good idea. However, there are a host of other beautiful sceneries that do not have the best time for viewing. Tourists regard The Mara as a year-round safari destination. (http://www.maasaimara.com/)

The park has a host of predators making it the best place to sight animals like cheetah, leopard, lion, and many more. They are common especially in the dry months between December and February. The Mara River also has a host of water predators in hippos and crocodiles, which normally cause problems for the crossing wildebeest during the migration. With a gentle and mild weather, thanks to its altitude, The Mara is one of the tourists' preferred destinations in Africa.

Besides the great migration, Masaai Mara game reserve is also a tourism hub of choice because it has world class accommodation facilities. Tourists have a variety of places to choose where they want to stay with affordable rates and quality customer experience. When you are in the Mara, you will have a private viewing of the game because the area and its surrounding conservancies have a restricted number of vehicles allowed. There are also hot deals for clients who book for seven days or more.( http://www.maasaimara.com/ ).

The Masaai Mara is one of the Kenyan game reserves that the Kenya Wildlife Service does not manage. Its management is under the County Government of Narok, the western section of the park, which is known as the Mara Triangle is under the Trans-Mara County Council, while the eastern section is under the Narok County Council. The councils have also contracted two local non-profits, Mara Conservancy and Group Ranch Trusts to help with the maintenance. They have anti-poaching units that help in keeping the poachers at bay. The Masaai Mara remains one of the top foreign exchange earners for Kenya due to the large number of tourists coming to see its exceptional sceneries. While it is not always a guarantee that the wildebeest will come around, there is not time they have let the tourists down. It is a perfect place to experience the best sights of the big game as well. What's more, it is easy to access because it is close to Nairobi.
