London Design Festival 2008 highlights

September is a design diary dream. With 11 action-packed days and over 200 events at this year's London Design Festival, planning is key. If you only visit ten events, don't miss these.

1. Tent London
Join the cool crowd and hotfoot it over to Tent London (18-21 Sept) on Brick Lane, featuring five shows in one. Highlights include Content, showing a mod mix of individual exhibitors and their new collections, Talent Zone which spotlights recent graduates, and Circa, Britain's biggest vintage event. All prove that good design can be accessible to all. Don't miss the red Bibliochaise by nobody & co - a chair and shelving in one. It's a book worm's dream!

2. 100% Design
Spot big brands, emerging talent and new products at London's top interiors trade fair 100% Design (18-21 Sept), showcasing everything from furniture to flooring (public day - 21 September). And brush up on your design knowledge with it's seminar programme featuring the industry's most biting concerns. Creative director Tom Dixon promises to raise his voice on more than one occasion.

4. Brompton Design District
Tom Dixon advises a trip to Brompton Design District - between the Serpentine Gallery and Brompton Cross. Hop on a tuk-tuk between pop-up exhibitions in unusual locations and world-class institutions. We'll be spotted at B&B Italia talks at the Monocle Café, Rabih Hage Gallery's pop-up shop with Piet Hein Eek and Dixon and George Smith's Knightsbridge ballroom-cum-upholstery factory. Celebrate the Conran Shop's 21st anniversary at the iconic Michelin House.

6. Ceramics in the City
Ceramic lovers will flock to Ceramics in the City (19-21 Sept) at the Geffrye Museum, back for it's seventh year. Expect an exuberant mix of colours, styles and techniques in the the works by 40 new and established talents. Meet the ceramicists, buy their wares, watch informal demonstrations and entertain the kids at the craft workshops. That's your weekend sorted.

7. Focus/08
London landmark Design Centre Chelsea Harbour plays host to the festival's biggest decor trade show, Focus (21-24 Sept). Don't miss the free public day on 24 September - a chance to view the latest fabrics, papers, furniture and trimmings from top UK and international brands in this epic glass-domed space.

8. Eureka
Don't miss Design-Nation's Eureka exhibition at Royal Festival Hall Ballroom (13-18 Sept), showcasing the best of British. Celebrate the collaboration between designers, retailers and manufacturers in bringing new products to the market. See Hannah Dipper and Robin Farquhar's dibdob for Habitat alongside other cutting-edge designs. Who do you think deserves £2000?

9. The future's green
This year sustainable design events are spreading all over London. Discarded plastic becomes beautiful in Arts Co's From Now to Eternity exhibition (19 Sept - 19 Oct) and reclining gets a rethink in the Alternative Sitting show (13-23 Sept). Lighten Up from redesign, explores innovative lighting solutions and greengaged (15-23 Sept) at the Design Council is the focus for ground-breaking new debate.

10. Craft Central
Don't spend all your money during the first day of the festival. On the final day, snap up designer bargains at Craft Central (23 Sept) in St John's Square, Clerkenwell. Alongside sneak previews of new products, ten UK designers will sell off items like ceramic boxes, glass butterflies and printed cushions. Craft Central is a not-for-profit organization aimed at creating a strong future for design.
