What a great start, preparatory to the World Cup. Last year's finalists losing their games.

Pak was trounced by formidable SA and India by NZ.

It is obvious that World Cup 2009 will be different from WC 2007 ! There were allegations that Aussies were not prepared, but then they dispelled all doubts yesterday when they piled up 219 against Bangladesh, with Watson and Haddin putting on a century first wicket partnership.

Raina ( 45 ), Jadeja ( 41 ) and R Sharma ( 36) shone with the bat, while Ishant took four for 25. India, who scored 90/3 and looked like winning, faltered in the last overs and lost by nine runs. NZ - 7/170, India 161/6.

SA scored 186/7 and bowled Pak out for 126. G Smith scored 70 and Gibbs 42.

Rohan Gavaskar had requested BCCI to give him amnesty.BCCI has granted amnesty to 79 ICL players. Jason Gillespie is worried about this exodus from ICL. But ICL officials are not worried.

In the WC T20 09, we have three former world champions, Aussies, Windies and Lanka. This group happens to be the most formidable group and their fights for supremacy will spark fire.

After watching Gilchrist and Hayden batting in the IPL II, one wonders what Australia had lost. It is to be seen whether Shaun Marsh and Dave Warner will overcome their injuries. Still the Aussie batting line appears to be formidable.

Hopes

If Chris Gayle and Jayasuria explode, it will be a big problem for the opposition. These two are match winners and in T20, one player can change the course of any match !

If Dilshan opens with Jayasuria, SL can get off to flying starts. Jayawardhene and and Sangakara can explode at any minute and Murali and Mendis can destroy any opposition !

Chris Gayle, Sarwan and Chanderpaul can also contribute and WI are no less gifted.

Brett Lee & Co can still tie down any opposition and my best bet is Australia in Group C !

Left handers give India and SA the edge, according to another theory. Both have eight left handed specialists in their squad.

Statistics prove that left handers, whether they be batsmen or bowlers, have reigned supreme in this controversial format. If you take the statistics of WC T20 07 or IPL, you will find that left handers have excelled more than their right handed counterparts.

In the recently concluded IPL, Hayden scored 572 runs, Gilchrist 495 runs, Raina 434 runs, Bram Villiers, 465. In the bowlers' table, three left handers ruled the roost, with R P Singh taking 23 wickets, Ashish Nehra ( 19) and P Ojha, 19.

IPL I Statistics proved the same thing. In the batsmen's table, three left handers were on top, with Stuart Marsh scoring 616 runs, G Gambhir, 534 and S Jayasuria 514 ! Pak's left hander Sohail Tanvir was the best bowler with 22 wickets !

In 2007 WC T20, left handed Hayden topscored with 265 and RP Singh was second wicket taker with 12 wickets !

Meanwhile, Vettori, the NZ skipper feels that India has the edge in this WCT20. He feels that Indians have played more T20 matches. IPL has boosted their confidence and they are more experienced than the rest. He feels that the best bowling side is SL, as they have the three Ms, Murali, Mendis and Malinga ! He feels that RSA and Aussies are formidable line-ups !
