When using any electronic device keeping your data backed up is something that should be absolutely done in regular intervals. You don't want to lose data that you can't get back such as contacts, messages, and pictures as well. In order to keep your information safe from your iPhone 4G, back the contacts up to your computer.

Your contacts need to be backed up because if you lose your phone you may never be able to restore those phone numbers. This could cost you a friendship and allow you to end up distancing yourself from friends and family. It is a relatively easy process to back your contacts up with your iPhone 4G.

You have to use your computer and iTunes along with some type of an address book software. This can be Outlook, Yahoo Address book, or the Max OSX address book to keep the contacts stored.

If you happen to be using Windows instead of a Mac you need to have the iTunes sync add-in for Outlook if that is your program of choice. This will allow Outlook and iTunes to work together to get your contacts from your iPhone to your computer without any hassles. The sync option can be found under tools, options, COM add-ins, and advanced options. Once you are sure that this has been enabled you need to connect your iPhone to your computer. iTunes should automatically appear to handle the request that comes from the iPhone being connected.

Right in iTunes you can select the iPhone source area. This will allow you to determine what exactly is synced up currently and what you intend to sync up with the process once it has been completed. This is also a very simple process if you follow a few short steps in iTunes which is a rather easy program to use.

Under the info tab you can find the sync address book contacts option for mac users and for Windows users you will have an option to select which address book source, whether it is Yahoo, outlook, or Windows address book. You can then select which contacts or groups of contacts are going to be synced to the device. It is a very simple process that can be repeated as often as you need it to be done.

You should be aware that syncing contacts will not delete any of them on Yahoo, even if the messenger ID happens to be the same. If you want these contacts to be deleted you need to login directly to Yahoo to delete them. Macs are different in that any contacts that get synced with the iPhone will also be synced up directly with any other programs your address book may be directly associated with.

You may want to use multiple address books to back your contacts up in case something happens to the other like a corruption. You can never be too careful when it comes to your personal data and keeping it backed up. The more locations that you have your information stored in, the safer the information will be.
