How to Learn Face Painting For Kids

If you're interested in learning face painting for kids, you've come to the right place! I've been face painting for a while, and I'm going to share a few secrets with you, which will definitely help you get up and running. Painting faces is great fun, and it's also a great way to earn some extra income! So, keep reading and you'll learn how to get into this lucrative and fun hobby.

Materials

The first thing you need are the proper tools. You'll need paints that you can paint on skin, of course. Don't use just anything! Most paints have toxins in them that are harmful, especially for little kids! I recommend you buy paints that are rated just for children. There are a few companies who specialize in selling these. Just Google it and you'll find them. An assortment of colors is fine. Face painting is fun; it's not fine art. So, you don't need to worry about getting just the right color of orange for a particular sunset. It's more like you need bright red for fire engines and pink for cup cakes...that sort of thing.

The next thing you need are a couple of brushes. A really fine one and a medium one will do fine. I rarely use more then three brushes. Make sure the bristles are synthetic, not natural. Natural bristles can be a little scratchy on little faces.

You're going to need a few sponges. Again, oddly enough, synthetic materials work better than natural. They're softer. Also, you'll need some water and a bowl to wash your brushes out in. And, finally, you're going to need some towels. I have some that I use just for face painting. I wash them separately so the colors don't mix with my other clothes.

Designs

You can find tons of designs online. YouTube is one of my favorite resources. Also, there are some really good websites that can help you out. When I started out, my designs were too complex. Remember a five year old only has a very short attention span, so you need to get the design on the child's face fast, then move on to the next kid. That's a good thing to be able to do, if you're doing this for money. Time really is money, in this case! So, get in and get out as fast as you can.
