The Lion King Musical is a show adapted from the Disney film of the same name. In the movie, the songs are song by Elton John and the rest of the cast. The score is by Hans Zimmerman. For the stage musical a number of things were changed from the film version. One example is that more songs were added. There are also additional scenes in this musical show. The show first debuted in 1997, three years after the movie was originally released.

The show was first put on in the state of Minnesota at the Orpheum Theatre. It was an instant success and was moved to Broadway. It is Broadway's eighth longest running show in history and has had more than five thousand performances. It is a popular choice for families to go see. The show was first performed in London in the West End's Lyceum Theatre in the year 1999. The show there is still currently running. It remains one of the theatre's best selling shows. In 2008, the show was put on for the British Royal Family at the London Palladium.

This show has won many awards during its run. From the beginning, there has been a flood of critical praise for this musical. It has won a number of Tony awards, a Theatre World Award, two Laurence Olivier Awards, and three Molière Awards.

This musical has been applauded for using revolutionary puppet technology. Many of the actors are inside of hollowed out puppets. They have to use certain pulleys and levers to control their character. The main lions have mechanical headpieces to make it look as though they are fighting. The actors who portray giraffes are on tall stilts to give them added height.
